Opening day of Vacation Bible School

Today was the first day of Vacation Bible School. Michelle Smith is the director this year and the theme is “Power Lab.” The highlight of the week-long event will be decorating soccer balls which will be sent to children in South Africa.
Canoe camping on the Brazos

As soon as school was out for the summer, the pastor began talking up a repeat of last fall’s canoe camping trip down the Brazos. Once again the plan was to put in at Rochelle’s, spend the night on a ranch at Post Oak Bend and then continue on down to the Highway 180 bridge on the second day.
Thirteen people showed up for the trip, including some grandkids and visiting cousins. There were a few spills but everyone had a great time. Unfortunately it was HOT. So hot that everyone just decided to stay in camp and fish all day instead of getting out on the river for the second day.
